Dubrovnik is a beautifully historic part of Croatia that is popular for a reason! Think Game of Thrones, Mediterranean sunshine & authentic Croatian culture.
October is well and truly an Autumn month, with temperatures cooling down and the holiday spirit starting to manifest around the world. We think that October would be the perfect time to visit our beautiful country with a Croatia villa rental and explore the wonders that it has to offer.
Although the temperature can start to cool down in October, it can reach highs of 22 degrees in the day which is still ideal weather to sit on the sandy beaches of Dubrovnik and soak up the Mediterranean sun. We recommend bringing warmer clothes for the night, but the cooler weather allows you to explore the historic sights and natural surroundings without getting sunburn or heatstroke.
Independence Day in Croatia is a national holiday taking place on October 8th to celebrate the decision of the Croatian Parliament to separate Croatia from the SFR of Yugoslavia. It is a holiday that brings national pride and is a way to celebrate the future of Croatia as an independent country.
You will find celebrations all throughout Croatia, but the best can be found in Zadar, Croatia’s oldest city. Zadar played a huge role in the Croatian War of Independence and the patriotism is tangible on this historic day. Friendly locals celebrate this holiday and you will be able to sense a true feeling of pride when visiting this city.
Halloween & All Saints Day
Halloween isn’t massively celebrated in Croatia, although it has gained popularity in more recent years, especially with the clubs and bars in Croatia. Split is famous for its nightlife and many nightclubs will put on costume competitions and specialist menus. Halloween is the day before All Saints Day, which a public holiday in Croatia that takes place on November 1st.
All Saints Day is when family and friends celebrate those that have passed away by visiting cemeteries and remembering fond memories of those they have lost. Families will clean the graves, leave flowers and then return home where they will celebrate with a feast.
Truffle Days in Istria
Truffles are world famous for their unique taste and high price tag. October is the top month for white truffles and Istria celebrates throughout the month with various food events and celebrations for this wonderful item of food. There are exhibitions, fairs and markets where you can purchase truffle oil and meet locals who specialise in truffle dishes. You will find truffles all throughout the peninsula and in all dishes at a much more agreeable price than you would find anywhere else in Europe.
Although the weather may be cooler in October, the Croatian culture thrives and offers visitors a unique opportunity to experience authentic local holidays and events. Orvas Villas specialise in luxury holidays to Croatia, providing you with a luxury base while you explore the wonders of Croatia.
